TEACHING PHILOSOPHY
ACTING STUDIO NEW YORK NY
The Maggie Flanigan Studio is the leading acting studio in New York City where professional actors train for long careers. The acting programs at the drama school are based on the Meisner Technique and the work of Sanford Meisner. The two year acting program includes acting classes, movement classes, voice and speech for actors, commercial acting classes, on camera classes, cold reading, monologue, playwriting, script analysis and the Meisner Summer Intensive.

Education
Rich studied the Grotowski work with Shaliko Company at NYU. He left NYU to work with Om Theatre in Boston and pursued his training with the San Francisco Repertory Company while supporting himself as a street performer. His career has led to work on and off Broadway, in regional theatre, and throughout Europe and Canada. The recipient of a National Endowment for the Arts Fellowship, Rich has performed solo work at a hundred colleges, theatres, and festivals on four continents. His writing can be found in Baseball Monologues, Monologues for Men, Hopewell Journal: New Work by Indiana’s Best Writers, Routledge Companion to Commedia dell’Arte and Allworth’s Movement for Actors.
Experience
Rich has directed and/or choreographed 200 productions, serving as a resident artist at Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts, BFA-Guthrie, UMKC, Asolo Conservatory, Alabama Shakespeare, Denver Center, Brandeis University, The College of William and Mary, University of Rochester, Berea College, Franklin College, Indianapolis Children’s Museum, and others. He currently teaches LIFE in the John Martinson Honors College at Purdue and Mask, Character, and Self-Care for Actors with Maggie Flanigan Studio.
The recipient of numerous teaching awards, Rich served as Senior Faculty Mentor in Purdue’s Teachers for Tomorrow program and is in Purdue’s Book of Great Teachers. Rich established and chaired teaching excellence committees at all levels, and frequently lectures on teaching, character, and leadership. In addition to serving as Chair and Head of the Theatre Program at Purdue, he is past president of the Association of Theatre Movement Educators and a member of the National Theatre Conference.
Teachers and mentors include, most notably: Jim Hancock, Stella Adler, Dharma Mittra, Theo Barnes, Dale Rose, Melodie Somers, Steve Wangh, Fred Kareman, John Stix, Jack Clay, and Joan Schirle.
