In Chapter 1, one of the big things that we address fairly quickly is what I like to call the actor’s faith. Basically, it’s a bs detector. This inner voice that says, “What I’m doing isn’t truthful. There’s something not right about it. It’s off, it’s wacky. It’s not grounded in truth, in the reality of doing.”
That is a very, very important thing that you have to be able to have as an actor, is actor’s faith. Your ability to accept as true, as real, what’s ultimately been given to you in the script, the character, the issues, the relationships. Your job is to be able to step into the shoes of that character and live that out as if it were really true. Developing actor’s faith, an inviolate sense of truth, ruthless standards, is very important. We will address that right after that.
