Q: What Did You Think Acting Training was Before You Started the Meisner Summer Intensive?

A: Before the Meisner summer intensive, I didn’t think acting training was much of anything. I was in college for theater and to me training was a lot of theater games and it was rehearsing scenes that didn’t seem to have a point. I rarely thought about them beyond memorizing your lines and memorizing what to do.

Q: And what happened to you specifically during the Six Week Summer Intensive that changed your perspective on acting and training?

A: I changed in the summer intensive. During the Meisner six week, I discovered a part of myself. I opened up in a way that I didn’t understand. To me, it just cracks you open in a way that I actually, halfway through, I called my school and I changed my major. And It sort of made me realize what professionals are. It made me realize that acting is art, that acting is a craft and that people really take it seriously. And it wasn’t just a game anymore.

Quote from Karina Nunez

Q: And what did you learn about yourself during the Meisner Summer Intensive that surprised you or changed you?

A: I learned a lot about myself. I learned that there was more to me, I learned that I could stand up for myself, I learned there was a lot with the way that I talked to people and the way that I talked to myself that was really important. I think something I learned about myself in the summer intensive was that I wanted a technique and I wanted a work ethic. I wanted to learn how to do that.

Q: So why did you decide to train in the Meisner method?

A: I decided to train in the Meisner method because it took all the parts that frustrated me with acting and it took me out of my head, it took me into a place that I wasn’t constantly analyzing while I was up there. It allowed me to, when I’m working just be in the work.

Q: And why did you pick Maggie Flanigan Studio?

A: I picked Maggie Flanigan Studio because it changed my life. I picked Maggie Flanigan Studio because, honestly because of Charlie (Sandlan). Because it was just breath-taking to have a teacher who took you seriously. Who set the bar at a level that wasn’t impossible, but if you didn’t bust your ass, you’re not ever going to get there. Um, to me the studio was just such a family of artists that cared about not only what they were doing, but they cared about each other and they cared about the work, the quality of the work that you’re putting out.

“I was placed in the intense reigns of Charlie Sandlan.  I became a better artist, actor, friend, sibling and daughter because of the studio. Even now, I crave the studio every day. What I learned is present in my work every day. I truly believe in everything they stand for.”

“Maggie taught me that I could control my work, my acting, and to throw all of the bullshit out that I had in my head about ‘what I should be doing’ and to just listen and respond honestly, in the moment. She gave me a craft. She is, quite simply put, THE BEST.”
