New York, NY (Updated April 20th, 2022) Maggie Flanigan Studio announces enrollment for the Meisner Summer Intensive (MSI) is now open. This highly acclaimed summer acting program, now in its 21st year, is accepting applications for training that starts in New York City on June 13th and runs through July 25th.
The Meisner Summer Intensive (MSI) is a demanding yet rewarding accelerated summer acting program. This intensive is for serious actors interested in getting a jump start in authentic professional Meisner training.
The MSI program offers a deep dive into the first third of the Meisner acting technique. Additional courses are available to train the body, voice, mind, and spirit, all aspects of preparing for a career as a professional actor. A challenging yet rewarding six weeks, the MSI program allows actors to acquire fundamental skills that will place them on a path to mastery of the craft.
According to MFS Artistic Director and Master Teacher Charlie Sandlan, there has never been a more important or exciting time to study. “Artists, and actors, in particular, have always been at the forefront of activism and major cultural shifts,” he says. “Looking ahead, I think there will be more diverse characters and more interesting casting choices.”
While this could mean more opportunity, according to Sandlan, only trained actors will have a lasting impact. “Meisner training brings depth, authentic emotion, and truthful behavior into every moment an actor is working,” he says, “this is what producers and directors are looking for.”
The faculty at MFS are experienced artists with decades of training aspiring actors. Included are the first third of the entire two-year Meisner program and auxiliary conservatory classes. Grounded in the accurate set of progressive exercises developed by Sandford Meisner, an original member of the Group Theater, our MSI students will learn how to craft, actively listen, respond spontaneously, and craft personally.
The Meisner Summer Intensive has been curated for actors who have or are currently studying drama at the university level and artists seeking to break personal and professional barriers in their acting careers.
“What distinguishes the Maggie Flanigan Studio is our belief that a brief but intense summer course can change the way you think, live, and approach the craft of acting,” says Sandlan.
