Why Study the Meisner Technique? Maggie Flanigan Studio (917) 794-3878

One of the important aspects of a really well-trained Meisner actor and one of the things that I think Meisner’s technique really instills in you so that it’s second nature is your ability to be spontaneous. It is an incredibly vital part of an actor’s skill, your ability to act before you think.

Charlie Sandlan interview highlight quote

When that comes to working on a script, when that comes to being able to apply that to a scene, it is the difference between a hack actor and somebody that really knows what they’re doing and knows how to work.

Your freedom, your spontaneity, your ability to improvise in the moment with other actors on stage or on the screen is vital to your work. Being fresh, being surprising, being vulnerable is one of the important things that Meisner training will instill in you, you’re spontaneity.

“I was placed in the intense reigns of Charlie Sandlan.  I became a better artist, actor, friend, sibling and daughter because of the studio. Even now, I crave the studio every day. What I learned is present in my work every day. I truly believe in everything they stand for.”

“Maggie taught me that I could control my work, my acting, and to throw all of the bullshit out that I had in my head about ‘what I should be doing’ and to just listen and respond honestly, in the moment. She gave me a craft. She is, quite simply put, THE BEST.”
