The Meisner summer intensive is a six week professional actor training program at the Maggie Flanigan Studio in New York City. In this interview, Victoria talks about her experience working with the Meisner technique for the first time.
What did you think acting training was before starting the Meisner Summer Intensive?
A: I didn’t know anything about acting before I started the Meisner Summer Intensive. I thought going into it I was just going to go right into scenes and I was going to come out a super star and that’s just not it at all.
What did you learn about yourself within the six weeks that surprised you?
A: I definitely learned how vulnerable I am as a person and how I let people play on me without even realizing it. I learned it’s okay to be vulnerable. I learned its okay to be a fucking human. You don’t have to have this shell all the time. You don’t have to be tough all the time. It’s so much more fucking honest to be vulnerable and open and free than this, “No, I’m not going to let anyone effect me”
How did that change your perspective on training to be an actor?
A: It made me start, when watching movies and TV, look at it differently and it just made me realize, they were okay. It just made it seem like nothing was real anymore. So it made me look at this training like, this takes you to the truth of a moment. It’s real. The only way I can describe it is that it’s real and it makes it feel real and that’s what made me want to continue.
Why did you choose Maggie Flanigan Studio?
A: I didn’t know anything about Maggie or the studio, and I thought, “What am I doing with my life? What do I want to do?” and it was one of the first schools that came up when I was searching and so I looked at it. I literally went through the entire website and was just like, “I have a really good feeling about this. This is right. This is it.” It took me two days to apply but I did it and then came in for the interview, started the program and it just felt right. It felt like this is the place to be.
