The first half of the program, which corresponds to the first year of the full professional training, will take place from January to August, and the second half will begin in September. The first part of the program will be taught by senior acting teacher Karen Chamberlain (who has received great compliments from her students).

Hailey Vest says of Chamberlain, “Karen unlocked who I am. I’m not afraid of striking out anymore, because I know that the work is beneath me. Emotionally, I have completely changed.” Sydney Nordan also says, “I have never felt so empowered in my life. Karen and Charlie really want to help you fulfill your dreams if you are serious. You have to be here and be ready to go all out.”

The 18-month acting program at Maggie Flanigan studio requires dedication and a willingness to put in the time, energy and effort needed to undergo professional training that will help students pursue long and tangible careers. The program, which utilizes the Meisner technique, develops students into vivid, truthful and organic actors who are capable of illuminating the human condition. Actors who have been trained with the Meisner technique have a reputation for possessing great imagination, an ability to be genuinely present, listening and functioning from vulnerable and sensitized positions.

The first half of the program instills the fundamentals of acting into students. This part of the program aids in developing a truthful acting instrument and helps students become capable of performing their craft in simple, specific and personal ways — with pliable, vulnerable and empathetic bodies. The second half of the program focuses on character work and building professional skills for long term careers.

The Maggie Flanigan studio offers one of the best acting programs in NYC. It was founded in 2001 by Maggie Flanigan to serve as a studio that was dedicated to teaching the Meisner technique to the future generations of serious and hard-working actors. Flanigan established the studio because she realized that there was a substantial gap in American actor training programs and demand for industry-leading actors. The studio opened its doors on Maggie Flanigan’s reputation as the most authoritative instructor of the Meisner technique (that was developed by Sanford Meisner) and has grown over the past 15 years to become one of the most respected sources of professional actor training in the United States.

The Maggie Flanigan Studio believes that rigorous and inspiring conservatory-based training has to challenge the students to reach the highest professional expectations while remaining small, intimate and nurturing. Currently led by Charlie Sandlan, the studio has a faculty made up of exceptional instructors who have the experience and the integrity needed to bring Maggie Flanigan’s vision to life. The conservatory program at the Maggie Flanigan Studio aims to produce complete artists who have the skill, craft and education required to be able to work well even well into the later years of their life.

In order to nurture complete artists, the Maggie Flanigan Studio offers a curriculum that provides skills beyond those taught in acting classes. Their curriculum contains classes for movement, voice and speech, theater history, film history, anatomy for actors, script analysis, film and TV, monologue, Shakespeare and cold reading. These classes help develop actors who are capable of competing with those who graduate from the top MFA programs that can be found in the United States. Additionally, the curriculum at Maggie Flanigan Studio contains a business class designed to prepare students for the professional expectations of the acting industry. The business class is led by Emmy-nominated producer, casting director and actor Kate Lacey.
